The tempo should be referring *only* to quarter notes. If I'm at 120 in 4/4 say, and I change the some sig to 7/8, there should be 240 1/8th notes evety minute instead of 120. Currently, working on odd time signatures necessitates ludicrous tempos to achieve some semblance of normal behaviour.
I have no read this in the knowledgebase: ================================== Example: if you change the time signature from 4/4 to 7/8, some musicians would expect the tempo to double. However, when you do that, our app will automatically change the subdivision from quarter notes to eight notes, causing the tempo to stay identical. We do this, because it's simpler to use beats per minute to configure the tempo, for example, a lot of sheet music provides the tempo in BPM. If you're a musician who prefers to use "quarter notes per minute" to configure the rhythm, simply double the BPM when using a time signature with x/8, and half the BPM when using a time signature with x/2. This will set the tempo as if the app was using quarter notes per minute. ================================== I think this is backwards, and anticipate it's counterintuitive for most modern musicians, with the possible exception of the classical players among us primarily reading sheet music. There are numerous feature requests in this suggestion area; + very high tempos + polyrhythms* + this request! ... I'm sure there are others... Basically, the metronome could be vastly improved with this idea from Tack - (excellent metronome made by a solo dev and available on GitHub - photo attached), where a whole seperate 'subdivision' layer is present and can also have any step muted or accented in the same way the top 'beat/pulse' layer can. The 2nd photo show it set to a slow 4/4 with a 7tuplet subdivision that has it's own accents In a way this is like a representation of the time signature as seen on sheet music except it's also capable of 'tuplets of any integer for each beat/pulse, and would make the soundbrenner metronome. I'm excited about the wearable metronome, and hope the metronome app gets a lot better.
Thanks for the suggestion - we are working on the possibility of doing this and I will review your comment in more detail in our upcoming product meeting.
