Add a pedometer app to Core for tracking steps. I’d wear it 24/7 if it tracked my steps!
Changed the title from "Pedometer" to "Core: Pedometer / step tracker"
Changed the title from "Core: Pedometer / step tracker" to "Core: Add Pedometer / step tracker feature"
Merged "Step Counter" #87
This would be amazing!!!
Merged "Add accelerometer" #181
This would be useful.
Merged "A step counter" #248
I designed a concept how this could happen. Basically you would sync the data generated by our wearables to Apple Health and in there are all the charts and analytics you would want. Hopefully Google would offer a similar solution (haven't researched this yet). This would allow us to keep it simple and focus most of our attention on music-related features, but still able to support step tracking for our wearables
Changed the status to "In Progress"
If this happens, would it be likely to integrate with Strava and other apps too?
Hello, we are currently working on this and have a working prototype although still a lot of work needs to be done. Right now it can track steps but not sync to our mobile app yet. I believe Strava can access data from Apple Health, so yes it would integrate with that. On Android side, we would likely integrate it with Google Health which is exclusive to Android 14, but probably Strava supports that now too, or would eventually support it since it's only brand new (I didnt check Strava's Google support so just a guess)
Could this get added to the core 1 too? or would it just be for core 2?
It will be only for Core 2
do you have an ETA for this feature to be added to Core 2?
Yes, we are very deep in the development process already and are currently beta testing the algorithm and refining it. We already finished integrations with Google Fit and Apple Health as well for syncing the data to them. Overall my hope would be we can launch the necessary iOS, Android and firmware updates within May
Merged "Track steps" #528
Are you still on track with adding this feature?
Yes it's been stuck at 90% finished for so long. Very frustrated. I think we can finally ship this within the next 2 weeks.
That's great!
So? Is this going to be added soon?
Yes - our engineers just released the final firmware for internal testing yesterday. I think it will be 100% released in August
There was the firmware update today but I haven't been able to find this option. Do you know where I can locate it? Edit; thanks, the iOS release just updated for the video and some extra options a little later than the firmware update (about 24hours) super cool, glad this was able to be done!
Open the updated Soundbrenner app and the What's New for version 1.37.0 gives the steps for Core 1 and Core 2 as: "go to the Core settings inside this app". The Core settings are in your profile under the name you gave your wearable. As soon as you connect to the wearable, the system asks if you want to update the firmware.
Hi, for it to work requires both the most recent firmware update and the most recent app version. For iOS, both has been released, for Android, Google is still reviewing our release and it should be released early next week, most likely on Monday. You can find the settings in Settings -> Core settings -> Step counter
This feature has been released on all three platforms: iOS, Android and Firmware. So now everyone with a Core 2 should have access to this :) 🎉 - If you have any feedback or questions, please drop them below or to florian@soundbrenner.com

Hi, I've sent emails but haven't heard back. I have a Core 1 but can't figure out where the step counter is. I believe the watch firmware is up to date (1.7.0) and so is the app (1.37.3). My iphone is still on 17.7.2. Is it only available on 18?
Hey, I don't work for Soundbrenner but I have a Core 2.... the step counter feature is in my app under "settings" and then "core 2 settings".... I'm wondering if it's not available for Core 1? I updated my iPhone to 18.2 only very recently.. as I recall the step counter feature was working with iOS 17.... Good luck!
Super appreciate that, thanks! Yeah, I don't see it in the Core settings, so you might be right about that. I just got confused cause originally they said it would be for both, and I thought maybe there was just something I'm missing.
I would definitely reach out directly to Soundbrenner if I were you.. they were extremely helpful and patient with me as I navigated my initial journey with my Core 2. Merry Christmas!
Hi, unfortunately the step counter is an exclusive feature for Core 2 and is not available for Core 1. Sorry I have no better news on that front but at least this clears things up! Cheers,
Hey there! Why aren't the Core 2 pedometer steps being combined/cross-referenced with the Apple Health app on the iPhone? Today my Core 2 rated 8200 steps but Apple Health only shows 4700. I thought I gave all permissions for Soundbrenner to write steps data to Apple Health?
I've had this problem too-- just yesterday my Apple Health was short by around 7,000 steps. I think developers may be working on this as I've had a problem with the watch getting into a disconnect/reconnect endless loop which is only remedied with a factory reset... seems the pedometer is causing this somehow.
Thanks, Stephen. I didn't even consider the two symptoms could be related. I also sent a support ticket about the endless disconnect/connect loop.
I believe they're working on it-- I agreed to disable the step tracker for about a week to see the results: sure enough, no disconnect-reconnect loop. They were extremely grateful for that and said they're working on it... here's hoping...!
Thanks for reporting this - I've also shared a screenshot of this conversation to our iOS engineering team to be sure they really saw it!
Thank you, Florian!
