When a notification is displayed on the Core, I want an option to dismiss it on my phone (Android). Maybe by double-tapping the middle, since that is currently unused?
I think it should probably by a setting inside the Soundbrenner app that you can make it so that all notifications dismissed on the Core are also dismissed on your phone. I think we chose the default behavior that this doesn't happen but I agree it would be nice if that default could change. Not so sure about having an alternative interaction so you can decide one by one for each notification if it should stay on the phone or not. It sounds pretty complicated to remember/figure out/explain. Usually we only use the tapping for starting/stopping things
I find that there are three actions I want to perform when looking at notifications on my Core 2: * Stop looking at notifications and go back to doing something else (small button) * Acknowledge the notification I'm looking at and action it on my phone, maybe later on if it's not important (long button) * Dismiss a notification because I got everything I needed by just seeing it on my watch If silent notifications didn't come through to the watch (as mentioned in another suggestion) there may be fewer situations that fall into the last category, but they definitely still exist: a message from someone saying they are here, a weather warning, etc. For this reason, I don't think a setting to replace the current behaviour with dismissing on the phone would help - there are two separate classes of notification, and because they are based on content, I can't even decide that a certain app should be dismissed. What about a long press of the big button with a confirmation prompt to dismiss the notification if you press the big button again or cancel the action and go back if you press the small button? The prompt paradigm is used elsewhere, making it consistent and making sure it's not an action with an unknown outcome. A long press hopefully isn't too complicated (though I don't know if this paradigm is used elsewhere on the watch).
Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. I can see now better the value of having the ability to retain some notifications for the phone, even if you want the majority to be deleted. Unfortunately long pressing the long bottom button already has a shortcut interaction (dismissing all notifications queued up on Core). Another option could be a double tap of the bottom button or perhaps we simple allow users to map what the long button press does in the mobile app.
