Core: use built-in microphone for contactless tuning#39

Contactless tuning would be useful for singers, wind instrument players, etc. The Core seems to have a microphone used for the dB meter, why not use it to help more musicians and not just (bass) guitarists use the tuner?

Thanks, my bad. Is it something feasible to be made in a firmware update?

Hi Eugene, yes it is something feasible if enough people request this feature :)

This is exactly what I am waiting for. I would immediately buy a Core when this option is added (together with the possibility tot change frequency to 441/442hz :) )

I totally agree with. This feature is an important one for me.

This is the reason I bought the watch!! I was hopeful that it would be able to do this more than any other feature, and since realizing it couldn’t, I’ve hardly used it. I want to be able to sing and check my pitch, play my tuba and tune myself without attaching a magnet to my very expensive instrument, and tune other people’s guitars without putting another piece of hardware on them. As a music teacher, it would be incredibly helpful for my guitar classes!

Could you attach the mount to a wind instrument?

I am looking at getting the Core 2 specifically for having the note displayed when you sing, just waiting to figure out if it can work like that, once confirmed I am pre-ordering.

I have a small device now that does this, a Korg Vocal Tuner (VPT-1), you sing a note and it says the note/key. If the Core had this I’d be ordering now, and I’ll preorder the Core 2 if it has something akin to this, does not need much of an interface beyond saying the current note ( and some indicator how close you are to being in tune to it ).

The Korg Vocal Tuner, it shows the notes like sheet music, showing also when you are off, this is helpful as well in figuring out how to read sheet music. It might be interesting if the device was able to show the notes, the chords even, to help in transcribing more accurately as well. So if you had something you weren’t quite sure, this would give you an actual measure of it which you know is accurate. This would allow this device to have a new feature.

I am actually not sure if the Core 2 will be able to display you notes that you’re singing. I’ve asked one of our team members to test this and will get back.

I have received the feedback that Core 2 can detect the correct notes when singing and display them :) While we haven’t tested it extensively it’s definitely worth a try. In case it doesn’t work as you expect, you have the chance to return it but most likely I expect it to be fine. Please do share your feedback for this use case in case you do decide to buy one! Cheers

@Florian Simmendinger sooo we have to buy a whole addictional watch to get a feature that was teased in the watch we already bought. great. 🙄🙄

Hi Bailey, we received the feature request for microphone tuning after the development of Core 1 was completed and we started selling it. We never marketed this feature and sold products on the promise that it would be available. We have tried implementing it to Core 1 but found there are inconsistencies across devices because the devices were not quality controlled for microphone tuning during assembly.

@Florian Simmendinger i feel like two seconds of market research would have ypu know that most musicians wouldnt use a magnetic tuner. The only reason i even bought the watch in the first place was that there was information that you were looking into this feature right back to the indiegogo campaign. By 2021 you still had the feature on the backlog and now conveniently you always knew you didnt create the product to include a microphone tuner right from the get go despite being very hopeful about the possibility of adding it the whole time. Funny how the story changes after weve all bought the watch 🤣

Hi Bailey, Indiegogo is when we were selling the product. If you reread my last message, you’ll realize you just confirmed what I said. When customers ask me if a feature is possible, I reply with my honest assessment which was that we want to add it, that it’s possible but that we can’t make any promises. If you did take that as a promise I’m sorry - my goal is not to mislead our customers to trick them into purchases. My goal is to make great products that customers love, are happy with and want to buy for what they are. If you have any more feedback please use a different channel to reach me ([email protected]) because we are spamming everyone who commented on this feature suggestion.
